Thomas Fritsch (January 16, 1944, Dresden, Germany - April 21, 2021, Berlin, Germany) was a German television and dubbing actor.
He was the son of the famous actor Willy Fritsch, and the outstanding actor and director Gustaf Gründgens advised 16-year-old Thomas to take on the profession of an actor.
He was known for appearing in various German films and television shows, including "Adorable Julia", "Der Kommissar", "Derrick", and "Rivalen der Rennbahn". As a voice actor, he was best known for providing the German voices of Scar from "The Lion King", Steele from "Balto", Aslan from the "Chronicles of Narnia" films, Bonejangles from "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride", Tai Lung from "Kung Fu Panda", Diego from "Ice Age", Dr. Delbert Doppler from "Treasure Planet", and Goliath and Thailog from "Gargoyles". He also replaced the late Joachim Kemmer as Lumiere for the "Human Again" DVD feature of Beauty and the Beast (1991 film). His last role was as the narrator in the 2018 children's film Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer (Film)|de]]], an adaption of Michael Ende's Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver. He briefly reprised the narrator in the 2020 sequel Jim Knopf und die Wilde 13 (Film).
Fritsch was committed to animal welfare. In 1990 he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. In 2006 he professed his bisexuality. In 2019 it became known that Fritsch had dementia. Thomas Fritsch died on April 21, 2021 at the age of 77. For many years he lived alternately in Munich and on the Greek island of Mykonos. He spent the last years of his life in a Berlin senior citizens' flat-sharing community. Thomas Fritsch was buried in the sea off the island of Sylt.
